Traditional crafts for a contemporary Moroccan country home
A relaxed family home in the Moroccan countryside, surrounded by farms, mud houses and ruins. The vernacular architecture and surrounding landscape of Ziad played a pivotal role in the techniques used in the construction stages.
Inspired by local historic craftsmen, natural, artisanal traditional Moroccan materials were used , such as ‘pisé’ (mud and straw) walls, tadelakt (polished plaster), dos, hand-cut local stone, bricks and timber.
With an emphasis on local crafts, artists, materiality and detail. Ziad is defined by a natural and organic palette of sandstones, warm neutrals and rusts to shape the narrative's connection to its location and history. Furnished with a mix of found items, vintage and new pieces - made by local craftsmen and bespoke items, designed by us to fit perfectly into their surroundings.
Internal patios link the outside in and help create interesting perspectives through indoor/ outdoors echo an oasis of calm within the space.
