MIMI KAKUSHI
A taste of the East - The Rhythm of the West
MIMI
KAKUSHI
RESTAURANT
Miami Beach, USA
Japanese restaurant and bar, atop the reimagined Delano Miami Beach. Pirajean Lees makes a debut in the US with Mimi Kakushi, a project that strongly embodies the studio’s narrative design approach, at the iconic Delano Hotel.

Having designed Mimi Kakushi’s first outpost in Dubai, Pirajean Lees has reunited with Paris Society to bring the concept to Miami.
For every project, Pirajean Lees begins with a narrative rather than a design and Mimi Kakushi is perhaps one of the clearest expressions of that process. Sessue Hayakawa was a man of many worlds - composed in manner, yet extravagant in life. That narrative became the framework for the space, somewhere that feels like a specific moment in a much larger journey. In Miami, it finds a new chapter.

Pirajean Lees channels 1920s Osaka, the glamorous life of silent film star Sessue Hayakawa, and the breezy spirit of South Florida atop the restored Delano Miami Beach.

The Delano has always been a design icon, defined by its pared-back palette. Mimi Kakushi sits in deliberate contrast to that. Once you step inside, the warmth is immediate, from the timber, the rattan and the amber light filtering through the bead curtains and stained glass screens.
The two spaces are in conversation with each other, a contrast that makes them work well together.
